Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI)
What is the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) approach?
The Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) Approach is how the NDIS is working with Early Childhood Providers to deliver early childhood intervention for children aged 0-6 years.
The NDIS ECEI Approach will help all children with developmental delay or disability and their families to achieve better long-term outcomes through support services in their local community, regardless of diagnosis.
Early Childhood Partners will be the first contact point for families as they commence early intervention support for their child.
What is Early Connections role?
The NDIA has engaged Early Connections as an Early Childhood Partner to work with families where a child is identified as needing additional support to meet developmental milestones.
As an Early Childhood Partner, we will draw on our specialised early childhood knowledge to determine appropriate supports for your child and family, including information, emotional support and specialised early intervention supports.
With an emphasis on inclusion, each child will be supported in a range of mainstream settings, such as preschool, play group and other early childhood settings. This gives them an increased opportunity to learn and develop positive social relationships.
Supports will be delivered through a family-centred approach, which builds on family and carer strengths in order to improve the child’s developmental trajectory and overall quality of life.
As every child is different, Early Connections will tailor support to your child’s individual needs and circumstances.
As an Early Childhood Partner, we will:
- Provide you with information.
- Connect you and your child with the most appropriate supports in your area, such as the community health centre, educational setting and playgroup.
- Provide some short-term early intervention where it has been identified as the most appropriate support.
- Help you to request NDIS access if your child requires longer-term early childhood intervention supports. If your child becomes an NDIS participant, Early Connections will work with you to develop an NDIS plan.
Once your child’s NDIS Plan is approved, you will be able to choose a Service Provider(s) to best meet your child and your own needs.
How can I access ECEI?
If your child has already been granted access to NDIS, Early Connections will receive your child’s details from the NDIA and be in touch to begin early intervention planning.
If your child has not yet been approved for access to the NDIS scheme, you can contact Early Connections in your local area and we will begin the process for you.
